AML New Account Sanctioner – Risk – Anti Money Laundering & Fraud

I have been working for the RBS Group for 3 years, and joined the Anti Money Laundering & Fraud team of Adam & Company in November 2006.

The team is responsible for monitoring the AML/Fraud Prevention processes and procedures of Adam & Company, ensuring that Anti Money Laundering guidelines are adhered to, and cases of potential and actual fraud are investigated and reported as appropriate.

I have a varied role, which primarily focuses on the account opening process. I am responsible for reviewing all new Non-personal and ‘High Risk’ accounts prior to opening, and carry out weekly sample testing on Personal accounts, ensuring that sufficient Due Diligence and Know Your Client information is held to meet the requirements set out by the Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (JMLSG). I am responsible for carrying out Name Screening on all new clients against the Bank of England’s Sanctions & Terrorism Blacklists. I also retain and monitor the completion of the Large Transaction Reports, produced to identify suspicious or unusual transactions that may indicate potential money laundering or fraud. In addition to the tasks detailed above, I also get involved in various ad-hoc activities, such as policy review and the production of MI.

What is a typical day like in your office?

Although I have various ongoing tasks, no two days are the same. When I come in to the office in the morning I have no idea of what challenges I may be faced with throughout the day, whether it is a complex company structure to be reviewed, the investigation of an individual who is an exact match on the Sanctions & Terrorism Blacklist, or a series of payments coming in to an account which are unusual in nature. There is never a dull moment, as even when the new accounts are quiet, I assist with projects and review new/existing policies, helping the business to improve and streamline its processes.

What do you like most about working for Adam & Company?

There is a great working atmosphere and, as a relatively small company, every department has close contact with each other and works together to achieve the best for the business. When this is coupled with the benefits of working for the RBS Group such as pensions, job security and career opportunities, Adam & Company is an excellent place to work.

The close-knit community within the company means that I always feel my input is valued, and, although I have only recently joined, I am actively encouraged to develop my skills to enable me to further my career. I would recommend anyone to consider a role within Adam & Company. There is a relaxed and enjoyable working environment where all staff are treated with respect and professionalism.
